About the position

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport students assigned in accordance with the law, state/district regulations, and administrative direction
  • Maintain order and discipline on the part of every passenger
  • Fuel bus as necessary
  • Complete the pre-trip inspection of the vehicle as required
  • Maintain a rigid time schedule on each route except when it might cause an unnecessary hazard
  • Complete all required reports in a timely and accurate manner
  • Report needed vehicle repair or maintenance to the Transportation Supervisor immediately
  • Report bus accidents and student injuries to the Transportation Supervisor immediately
  • Administer first aid as necessary
  • Maintain the internal cleanliness of the vehicle assigned by the Transportation Supervisor
  • Conduct emergency bus evacuation drills as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor
  • Use seat belt and signal lamps as directed by law
  • Maintain building and grounds in a clean and orderly appearance
  • Assist in maintaining safe working conditions for all employees in the building and on the grounds
  • Maintain the equipment pertinent to custodian duties in an orderly and satisfactory working condition
  • Make necessary room preparations for meetings or other functions
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned

Requirements

  • High school graduate (preferred) or equivalent
  • Prior work experience with youth evidencing ability to effectively elicit respect and cooperation (preferred)
  • Must have or be able to obtain Class B CDL with S and P endorsements and Michigan School Bus Driver Certification
  • Drug screening, clean driving record and criminal background check required
