EMT - Emergency Medical Technician


Offer appropriate, efficient, and prompt pre-hospital basic life support care and transport for the sick and injured according to professional standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
The following tasks are fundamental to this role.

  • Perform thorough patient examinations and assist other medical staff as needed.
  • Provide timely basic life support according to licensure limits and approved protocols, before and during transport.
  • Ensure careful handling of patients when moving them to and from the ambulance.
  • Safely transport patients in the ambulance to medical facilities.
  • Transfer patients and relevant care information to receiving medical staff.

Document all patient conditions and treatments on EMS reports, and complete non-medical patient information and other required forms. Regularly inventory and test equipment to confirm all devices are present, clean, and fully operational.

After transport, complete all tasks to return the ambulance and equipment to service. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of basic life support equipment and its use. Report required repairs to the maintenance department and supervisors.

In the absence of qualified personnel, use basic extrication tools and control the emergency scene to minimize danger. Drive the ambulance safely and efficiently according to guidelines.

Adhere to all FCC regulations during electronic communications. Attend mandatory meetings. Complete assigned station duties and order supplies to replenish station and ambulance inventories.

Maintain ambulance cleanliness through assigned duties. Fill out company reports and logs and share information with ambulance and supervisory staff as needed.

Approved Field Training Officers are responsible for training EMT-Basic students and new employees. Fulfill all qualifications, requirements, and responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician - Basic role, and perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • National or state certification as an EMT as per state requirements.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Valid state driver's license according to state standards.

Must read, write, and communicate professionally. Ability to write simple reports and present information effectively in small group settings. Have knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies. Capable of driving large vehicles in all conditions.
